Did you know that the Caribbean festival originated in Trinidad and Tobago in 1834 when French settlers brought the Fat Tuesday masquerade tradition to the island? The festival evolved into the modern Caribbean Carnival by blending the European masquerade with Creole Canboulay festivities. The festival's roots may also date back to ancient Roman festivities like Saturnalia.
